Small caps — the quiet, editorial look
Small caps (ᴛ ʜ ᴇ) are the most common “aesthetic” choice for Discord names. They read as designed without shouting.

Pattern: a single word, two short words, or a three-word phrase. Avoid running small caps past two words — the x-height look becomes harder to scan at member-list size.
Bold serif — the strongest “look at me” choice
Bold serif (𝐀 𝐁 𝐂) is heavier than small caps, so it reads as more confident. Best for a single word or a two-word name.

Italic serif — the literary, considered look
Italic serif (𝐴 𝐵 𝐶) reads as written by hand, considered, slightly old-fashioned. Useful for a writer, designer, or anyone whose brand is editorial.

Monospace (𝙰 𝙱 𝙲) is the alphabet where every letter takes the same width, the way code is rendered. Renders as the same character on every client; reads as “engineer”.

Double-struck (𝔸 𝔹 ℂ) is the outlined alphabet, the one with the famous ”𝔸”. Quirky and unmistakable. Best for the first letter only, or a short all-caps label.

Pattern: the outlined look is visually heavy; use it for the first letter, or for short all-caps labels. A full name in double-struck is a lot of black outline on the screen.
Full-width — the CJK, terminal-cathode look
Full-width (ａ ｂ ｃ) is the alphabet drawn in the wide, monospace proportions of CJK typography. Renders identically on every client; reads as “East Asian” or “terminal cathode”.

Pattern: full-width is robust and renders everywhere. It is the safest choice if you need every letter to be exact, including digits and punctuation. The look is the most “non-Western” of the eight, which is worth keeping in mind depending on the audience for your display name.
Symbols around the name
A symbol on each side of a styled name reads as a quiet frame. Pick one symbol and use it twice.

The honest caveats
Display name is not the username. The @handle is plain ASCII. The styled look goes in the larger display name field. Re-stating because the search results that brought you here may have implied otherwise.
Search ignores the styled characters. A friend searching for “alex” will not find a display name ᴀʟᴇx. Keep the username searchable, and use the styled version for the visual look.
Coverage gaps. Small caps and superscript do not have all 26 letters; the gaps are q and x for small caps, more for superscript and subscript. Tools substitute look-alikes. Read the result before saving.
Screen readers vary. Most screen readers do not say “Alex” when they see ᴀʟᴇx. Behaviour across NVDA, JAWS and VoiceOver is inconsistent. If your display name is the way people find you, keep at least one plain-text copy somewhere in your profile.
